I can't believe the end of a school year is coming to an end.
This year just flew by, the quickest one yet.

With all the end of school year field trips, award ceremonies, sports banquets, hockey games, baseball games, softball games, practices, practices and more practices, there is no time for blogging. I miss my morning routine of reading my favorite blogs while I drink my caffeinated soda to get me started in the morning.

A Few Of My Favorites for Flip-flop Season

I love flip-flops. I wear them constantly once the weather permits. This means that my feet and toes must look their best. Here's a few of my must haves:

Bath and Body Works, "I Love Shea" foot cream is amazing. It leaves your feet super soft and silky. I feel like I just stepped out of the spa after I put it on.
Creative Nail Design Solar Oil for my cuticles. It's a great conditioner and instantly softens my cuticles and the rough skin around my toe nails.

My favorite polish for the summer for my toes is Essie Lovie Dovie. It's the perfect shade of pink - not to hot pink and not to pale.

A Before And After

Life as been absolutely crazy. I have the longest "To-Do List" and unfortunately not much is getting crossed off my list. Uggh!!!

Last week I spent a lot of time cleaning, staging and doing yard work. Unfortunately, it wasn't on my own home.

My husband bought a house last November to rehab and had to totally gut it. I thought he was CRAZY when I first saw the home. It was hard to believe that someone actually lived in it in the condition that it was in.

This is what the bathroom looked like when he bought it.
Can you imagine taking a shower in this every morning? Yikes!!!
Here's the after - nothing fancy, just updated and clean!!!
I had nothing to do with the renovations.
I wouldn't even step into the house until he was almost done with it.
My part was getting to do a little staging which was actually quite fun.
Yeah, one less thing on my to-do list!!!

I found an adorable green pencil cup at Target a few weeks ago that I thought would be perfect for my daughter's hot pink and green bedroom.

Everything was pretty picked over and not much left in my size but I did manage to snag a pair of these cute flip flops. I love the bright colors in the pattern and the braided detail. Preppy Finds

The other day I was walking into Target when the cutest set of pink and green file folders caught my eye. They quickly made their way into my shopping cart since pink and green is my favorite color combination. In the same section was a six pack of binder clips in what else, preppy pink and green. Also found an adorable pencil holder to match. Love them and for a dollar each, can't beat the price.

Mommy's In A Time- Out

I just put myself in a time-out to avoid yelling at my child who just cut himself out of a bunch of photos so he could make an i.d. card and have some photos to put in his wallet. (He was so very proud of his i.d. card.)

And of course he had to pick his "special photos" from some of his accomplishments over the past year. One was a team photo from winning second place in the state championship for hockey last year and one was a photo of himself holding the trophy. These were displayed on his big bulletin board along with the cutest school art project that he had won an award for. (I was planning on putting it in a frame, just hadn't got around to it yet.) He decided to dismantle it because he wanted the little penguins off of it. (Too cutesy looking for a nine year old to have in his room.)

Now why he didn't ask me for a wallet size hockey photo I have no idea since he had just asked me for a wallet size school photo.

This child is not three or four...he is nine. And we had a talk (several talks) when he was five or six because he had done something similar (he dismantled an art project and decided to to carve lines and a hole into the cork of his Pottery Barn bulletin board.)

I think I'll visit a few blogs since I'm in a "mommy time-out". Then afterwards, one little boy and I will be taping things back together and I'll try to cover up even more damage done to one very sad looking bulletin board. This time the things are going in his memory box, away from "Scissor Hands".

I participated in a Christmas swap hosted by Clemsongirl and was teamed up with the best partner ever, Kathryn!!!! She owns the cutest store called "Razzberry Fizz". My package had the most wonderful goodies in it (and to think I almost didn't join in on this swap because I have had some pretty awful experiences with some past ones).

Love, love, love this apron. I wear it constantly, whether I'm cooking or crafting. It's been great to wear while I've been doing lots of glittering of Christmas tags. It has a huge pocket which has been of great use since I frequently misplaced my scissors.

Halloween Recap

Halloween is long gone. As always, I'm late in getting these posted. We had a kids Halloween party. I snapped a few photos as we were just starting to set up and then time got away from me and I forgot to take any when we were all done.

The boys wanted it a little spooky but I'm not into skeletons or blood or gory things, so I decided I would decorate with bats. I had them flying everywhere.

Down the stairs ceiling as you entered the basement....
....flying on the walls, big and little ones.
These candy jars were my favorites. I found a great website that I printed the labels from.

I was tagged by the oh so fabulous Mrs. to show my Halloween decorations, so here's a tour of our front yard.

The boys have been begging for creepy Halloween decorations. After much pleading, I finally caved to their pouty lips and puppy dog eyes. They made their list: tombstones, bones, spiders, spider webs, spooky door mat and something scary for the front door.

After an afternoon of shopping, the list was complete.

They assembled their graveyard.
They placed big spiders...and small spiders and lots of spider webs.They wanted something spooky for the front door, but that's where I wouldn't give in. No skeleton for me. This is what we agreed upon.

Tomorrow the decorating will begin inside with a few little Martha touches.

You Want Gravestones, Bones and Scary Things?!!

The boys have informed me they want gravestones and bones and scary things to adorn our front yard this year for Halloween. I kindly informed them that I don't like gravestones, bones or scary looking things. To gory for this Mommy. I like simple, pretty fall decorations.

The Boys - "Couldn't we, oh please, have a little cemetery, Mom? Other people in the neighborhood have them. Please, please, please."

I caved to the pouty lips and puppy dog eyes, so tomorrow we're going to buy gravestones, bones and scary things to adorn our front yard. EEK!!!

So bye-bye simple fall arrangements...They want this to be "Halloweeny".

No touching boys. Mommy gets to keep this display exactly as it is.

Good bye cute door bucket. They have plans for here too.

By this time tomorrow, a corner (only a small corner was the agreement) of my front yard will be a cemetery complete with bones, gravestones and scary things. Oh my.

I Heard It With My Very Own Ears

I heard it...starting humming along with the music on the commercial as I was putting away dishes. Then it hit me...Christmas music. It was Christmas music!!! Yes, the very first holiday commercial has hit the t.v.

And oh they were sneaky...very, very sneaky... no words just instrumental music that was very catchy that it got me humming along.

I love holiday music. As soon as Thanksgiving Day is over, it's all I listen to...all day long, but this is a wee bit early for me.

Was It Just Me...

One morning my daughter was heading out the door for school when I noticed she was wearing an Abercrombie sweatshirt that I could have sworn she wore in the beginning of the week. Not wanting her to make a "major" fashion faux pas in the eyes of middle schoolers, I asked her if she had already worn that sweatshirt at the beginning of the week. Looking a little puzzled, she paused for a second and then gave me the "eye roll" and proceeded to the school bus.

After school that day, I was talking with my daughter and a few of her friends and I told them about how when I was in junior high, I kept a "Clothing Journal" of what I wore each day because there was an "unwritten rule" that you couldn't wear the same thing twice in a two week period. Boy, did they laugh...and laugh... and laugh!!! Quickly I told them (trying not to look to silly) that I wasn't the only one, I had friends that did it too.

My daughter and her friends get a big laugh whenever the "Clothing Journal" is mentioned. So was it just me or did anyone else keep a "Clothing Journal" in junior high ?

(I almost told them about "The Preppy Handbook" that we lived by in junior high and high school but figured they would have gone through the roof. I'll save that story for another day.)

Today is the first day that it actually feels like fall has arrived. There's a nice crisp breeze, the leaves are falling off the trees and the pumpkin patches are beginning to open. We visited a little corner pumpkin stand by our house today. The boys selected a few pumpkins and I picked up a few mums.

We couldn't leave without a few of these delicious treats.

The Mrs. is hosting a house tour, with children's bedrooms being the tour today. I thought I'd share a few photos of my son's room with you but the computer is not cooperating. It wouldn't allow me to upload anymore photos. Here's a few of his bed.

I wish I could say this next photo is of a bedroom in my home, but unfortunately it isn't. Just an inspirational photo I found and fell in love with. My son wants curtains like these added to his bunk bed so I am hoping that this photo will give me the push I need to get started.

I couldn't do a post of children's rooms without showing this fabulous photo. Isn't it adorable and every little boys dream bedroom? How's this for a little inspiration?!!!

Laziness is.....

Laziness is.....filling the dog's water bowl with bottled water because it was conveniently in my hand and must have been much easier to do then pick the bowl up and take it to the faucet.

Had to laugh afterwards when I realized what I had done without even thinking. Oops. Can't tell hubby this one. LOL!!!!

Yesterday I was out on the patio, rearranging a few things here and there. I snapped a few photos and thought I would take you on a small tour of my summer planters.

I have two of these planters sitting on the dining table. Lemon thyme is the herb and the smell is wonderful.

This one is sitting on a little cocktail table between two chairs.

This next planter is my favorite one. I love the combination of flowers.

While reading the Sunday paper this morning, I came across an article about celebrity homes for sale that have been on the market for awhile. In the article, it mentioned the estate of Richard Gere's white frame farmhouse in the Hamptons. Curious as to what it looked liked, I searched the internet for the listing.

With the humidity and temperatures in the upper eighties here, I would love to have a pool in our backyard. This one would do.

Chocolate Graduation Caps

I saw these adorable chocolate graduation caps on Bakerella's blog. The other day my daughter came home from school and said her class was having an eighth grade graduation luncheon. I knew these would be perfect to make.

Here's my version.

They were so easy to make. The original recipe called for Godiva chocolate squares, but at fifty cents a piece, I searched for a less expensive chocolate. I found the Ghiradelli chocolate squares at Target for a fraction of the cost.

Preppy Finds

Anything pink and green always catches my eye. I found the cute pink polka dot dish set at Swoozies for my niece.

I saw the pink and green plaid glasses on a website last year and by the time I got around to ordering them they were sold out. I stopped by TJ Maxx the other day and there they were sitting on a shelf waiting for me to buy them. Too bad they only had one box.

The monogrammed plaid tote is from LL Bean. I was in search for a cute little purse for running errands with that I could fit my big wallet in. It is perfect.

Aren't these monogrammed glasses adorable?!!!! I just saw them at The Monogrammed Gift. I want these!!!!

Lampapalooza Party Hosted By The Nester

I'm jumping on board the Lampapalooza Party being hosted by The Nester. Most bloggers are showing their creative talents with lamp makeovers. I'm not that talented in the lighting area but I have found some great deals.

I had been looking for many years for a new chandelier to replace the hideous one the builder put in our home. Everything I liked was way more than I wanted to spend. One day I happened to stop at The Expo while they were having a clearance on their floor models and spotted this great chandelier. As soon as I saw it I knew it would be perfect for my foyer and quickly told the sales associate to mark it "SOLD".

This next lamp is another one of my favorites. As I was making my way through Target one day, I spotted this beauty. Loved it at first sight and two of these were immediately in my shopping cart. I get so many compliments on it and people are amazed when I say I got it at Target.

Wait...here is one little creative touch I added to a lamp. I saw the cutest lamp in a little girls room at a designer showhouse. They added a bright pink ribbon bow vertically to a white lampshade and viola...it made the lampshade pop with color. I came home and added this ribbon to a lamp I have in the kitchen.

Delicious Summer Salad

I love salads, especially during the summer. This salad I made for lunch yesterday and is one of my favorites. It is so easy to make and very delicious so I thought I would share it with all of you.

Recipe for Salad

Dressing:

1/4 cup Olive Oil

2 T Sugar

2 T White Vinegar

Salt and Black Ground Pepper

5 Dashes of Tobasco Sauce

(Whisk together the above ingredients.)

Boston Bibb Lettuce

Romaine Lettuce

Green Onions, chopped

Toasted Almonds

"Tear" boston bibb and romaine lettuce into pieces. Put into serving bowl and top with green onions and toasted almonds. Drizzle dressing over top and serve.

(Yesterday I used "bagged" lettuce which made it even easier to make. It was "Fresh Express Sweet Butter". )

I Finally Got My Wish

For years, I have wanted to change our mailbox post. It was one the builder put in and it was a "Plain Jane". I have admired the ones in Walpole Woodworkers catalog, just wasn't fond of the price of the one I wanted especially when our mailbox post gets hit so often due to our home being on a curve in the street. People are always backing up and going forward trying to get their cars in the right position along the curve, hence making our mailbox a target. The last little accident split the post in half and was beyond repair, so it was time for a new one. Hubby surprised me and built one.

Now I'm nervous every time I see someone trying to park in front of our house. I want to run out and protect my mailbox. Maybe I'll do a little more landscaping around it to cushion the blow if it does happen to get in the way of a driver. A concrete wall around the sides wouldn't be to drastic would it? LOL!!!

Mother's Day

Even though the family wasn't all together for Mother's Day, it was a lovely day. My daughter and I were at a horse show all weekend and hubby was with the boys at their activities.

I love watching her compete. When she was about nine, she decided to quit her other activities and devote her time completely to riding and jumping.

She had a major growth spurt since last fall and is now to big for her pony in the eyes of the judges. She needs to move up to a bigger horse for competing. We recently decided to put her pony up for sale which is causing one "little" girl to be very sad. She thought we would keep her forever.

After we arrrived home from the horse show, I was off to a lacrosse game Sunday night.

The weekend was jam packed with a three day horse show, hockey tournament for both boys, a baseball game and two lacrosse games. It was a perfect weekend getting to watch the kiddies participate in the things they love.

Happy May Day!!

As a child, I celebrated May Day by leaving treats like this one on nieghbor's doors. My sister and I would leave the treat on their door knob, ring the door bell and then run away as fast as we could trying not to get caught. It's a great memory from my childhood.

I have enjoyed over the years doing things like this with my own children. The boys have so much fun trying not to get caught by their friends. An added bonus for them, it's the only time they can "ding-dong-ditch". I hope it becomes a great childhood memory for them as it was for me.

Small Kitchen With A Big Impact

I've been looking for ways to dress up our kitchen and happened to stumble upon these photos. I loved them so much I thought I would share them with all of you.

Some people think you need to live in a large home to have a stunning kitchen. These photos show that smaller kitchen's can have a big impact as well. It just takes adding architectural elements and the right touches with decorating.

There are so many details in this kitchen, big and small. I love the detailed hood over the stove. This would be perfect in my kitchen (I just need to figure out a place to put the microwave since it is right above the stove). The glass front cabinet is darling. The stone floors adds to the character of the kitchen. Don't forget to notice the sink faucet. Sometimes it's the simplest changes that offer a big impact.

My kitchen is very similar to the layout of this kitchen. These photos have given me lots of ideas. Too bad we weren't doing a complete kitchen makeover because I could just hand this photo to the contractor and say "Give me this".

I love the crown molding, especially the thickness of it. Also notice the legs added to the cabinetry below the stove. I also love all the extra details in the island. The legs added to make it seem more like furniture. All these little details add up to one fabulous kitchen.

Here's another kitchen with a lot of details. I particularly like the design of the back splash behind the stove.

This idea is one of my favorites, putting shelves on an island for cookbooks. Such a great use of space.

I Want This Outfit

I love, love, love Kelly Ripa's outfit in this photo. It is so my style and taste. It would be perfect for summer, the "go-to" outfit as I call it. You know, the one you grab when your in a hurry or when you want to look cute and summery or when you want to be comfortable and stylish at the same time. It almost becomes your uniform because you love it so much. Now all I need to do is get a hold of Miss Kelly and find out where she got it because I want it!!!

Today It Kicked My Butt...

We went to Florida for Spring Break with four other families. After having happy hour every night to watch the sunset at the beach and eating big, gourmet dinners afterwards...my waistline did a major expansion. Feeling more like a beached whale than a human, I decided to start exercising to get rid of some of the "blubber". (Did I mention I hate exercising?)

So this morning I make my way down to the basement to the treadmill. I get on thinking I can run a few laps and walk a few while watching Oprah. Sounds easy enough.

I get on...I walked a lap and got courageous thinking I could run the next three laps...I'm going to push myself...I'm going to sweat.

I'm running....I'm huffing and puffing....I push that button so fast to slow down after running only one lap. I walk a few more and try it again.

As I'm running, I'm watching the lights light up on the treadmill as I make it closer and closer to finishing the lap. I'm starting to sing and yell just to get this one lap done (thank goodness no one was home to hear all this) because Oprah just wasn't doing it for me. Finally I made it, actually did 2.5 miles in all. I slow down and get off and make my ways upstairs cuz now I'm HUNGRY. No fruit, no healthy snacks so what do I grab...Cocoa Puffs. I'm eating them by the handfuls...who needs a bowl. I grab a Pepsi cuz I hate water even though I did make myself drink it while I was attempting to "run". So all the good the exercising did if I end up eating half a box of Cocoa Puffs while chugging a Pepsi. So what was my purpose again?!! Watch out treadmill...I'm coming back tomorrow to kick some butt. (And then maybe finish off that box of Cocoa Puffs). LOL!!!!

Preppy Paper Girl Rocks!!!!!

UPS delivered a package this week to my doorstep. As soon as I saw the return address of Preppy Paper Girl, I immediately began tearing into the box to find the most adorable wrapped package.

The gift wrapping was so cute, I kind of hated to open it...but not enough to stop myself .

Preppy Paper Girl (Laurie) was so gracious in having a giveaway of products from the new Lilly Pulitzer stationery line. These fabulous, preppy, brightly colored items were in my package.

Should I Try It?

Should I or shouldn't' I is the big question? Now that we are cutting way back on our expenses, I hate to spend $150.00 to get my hair colored in a salon. I'm thinking of trying to do it myself at home which I've never done before. Am I crazy?!!! Do any of you color your hair at home and if so what brands do you use? If you have any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Pink Swap

I made tags for each package and gave each a sprinkling of glitter. I love glitter!!

One Down, Two To Go

One kiddie back at school today, two still home sick. It's been crazy around here. Keeping track of which medicine goes to who and at what times they get dispensed, changing bed linens frequently, loads of laundry, Lysol being sprayed constantly throughout the day and lots of comforting are keeping me on my feet. Now hubby has come down with it also. And it was all started by moi.

I hate to admit this, but my Christmas decorations are not packed away yet. I had such good intentions of organizing my decorations and weeding out the ones I don't use anymore. Hubby offered to finish the job for me, but I politely said no thank you because I was afraid his way would include a big dumpster in the driveway for a few days.

I took all the Christmas decorations down and made piles in the living room and dining room. I started sorting and then it hit me - strep throat. Made it through that and then got one nasty cold that stuck around for two loooong weeks. Survived that and then one by one, each kiddie started coming down with a high fever and sore throat. Throat so red, the doctor prescribed Tylenol with codeine for my daughter.

It seems so long since I've been on my blog. I did sneak away to the den a couple of times to peek in on a few of my favorite blogs. Now were on the road to recovery and my big plans will soon be back on track. Hope everyone is healthy at your house.

Hello 2009!!!

I have to say I'm not sad that 2008 is over and 2009 is here. Looking back, 2008 was personally and professionally a rough year to endure and I'm glad it's over. I'm looking forward to 2009.

My husband is in the mortgage business (or what's left of it anyway). We've had good years and bad years in this business, but nothing like this before. Thank goodness when the good years were here, he was smart enough to save knowing that there are always some tough ones to get through. Never, ever did I think we would be in this tough of a market though.

I'm finally realizing that it's going to be a long while before things turn around in this economy so I've been making some cut backs.

Over the last few years (2006 and 2007), we were in search of our perfect "forever" home. I think there was a reason we never found the "one" and are still living in this house. I think we were spared in finding the one so we wouldn't have the big mortgage, the big property tax bill and all the living expenses that go with a large home. I can't imagine what our life would be like today with all the added pressures of all those expenses.

So over the past few years, I haven't splurged on things for this house thinking that we would be moving. I feel we need to change things a little around here and freshen things up, to get back on track of making this house a home again and not just a place where we live. (The hard part will be to do it on a much smaller budget. YIKES!!!) I need to begin in creating a beautiful environment again, a place of calm and comfort for my family. Even though nobody ever wants a child to feel the stress of life's struggles, I know this has become noticeable to the kiddies. They are hearing "no" a lot more than their used to when it comes to buying things.

So here's to turning the page of the calendar to a new year. One that I'm wishing will be filled with hope, happiness, prosperity, love and calmer times ahead for not just my family, but for everyone. Happy 2009!!!

Beautiful Winter Day

It is a beautiful, snowy, wintery day here so I went to grab my camera to snap a few photos and found that the battery was dead. So instead of sharing photos that were taken today, here's a few that were taken during the holidays. This one is of a planter on my front steps.

This little deer is still sitting on my foyer table. He's one of my favorite Christmas decorations and I just hate to put him away. I still haven't got all the Christmas decorations packed up yet. That's my big project today.

I did take down the Christmas wreath and put this "wintery" one up with a chocolate ribbon.

Christmas Goodies

This year it felt like Christmas quickly came and went. I never had the chance to sit down by the fireplace, wrap myself up in a blanket and enjoy all the Christmas decorations.

We traveled over the holiday so I couldn't do all the wonderful bows with ornaments tied on the presents like I usually do every year. Everything had to be wrapped so it could be packed. I did wrap a special one for my mother in honor of my Grandmother who passed away this summer. She loved cardinals. I thought the present turned out so pretty that I snapped a photo of it.

I have to thank Paige at Simple Thoughts for the idea.

I made gift tags with glitter to add a little sparkle to the presents.

For my nephews, I made these "Rudolph" tags with a stamp I found at Hobby Lobby. At one of my favorite little boutiques I found these adorable clothes pins with Santa on them and attached the tags to the packages with them.

I made "Magic Reindeer Dust" for the little ones.

For my two neices who are in college, I filled candy jars with their favorite treats.

A Few Of My Favorite Things

What's this? All of my photos of miscellaneous things were in a file folder named "Miscellaneous Crap" in our home computer. So now I know what hubby thinks of all my saved photos of nicely decorated rooms from magazine websites like Southern Accents or photos of cutely packaged party favors from one blog or nicely wrapped presents from another or seasonal decorating photos from the Martha website or photos of my Christmas ornaments. These are the photos that I look at constantly for inspiration and ideas and these are what he labeled "miscellaneous crap". He is such a "smart ass" (excuse the language) and I'm sure he was laughing as he was typing it.

So here's a few photos of my "Miscellaneous Crap" or as I call them a few photos of my favorite Christmas ornaments.

It's All In Perspective Now

This morning, sheer and utter panic set in. I don't know what happened to all the days in December but I am behind like I have never been before. I need to be awake all twenty four hours of each day this week just to get everything done.

As I was reading my emails in hopes of finding some sweet shopping deals, I received an email from my father updating everyone in the family of my cousin's battle with brain cancer and it put everything into perspective for me.

David is lying in a hospital bed, near the end of his life. He's been battling brain cancer since March 2006. It's been a long, hard battle and one he thought he had won until recently. This last month things took a turn for the worse and more tumors were found. His battle can't be fought anymore, the chemo has stopped, the pain is intense and he is very agitated and frustrated. His wife has to remember that the horrible comments that come out of his mouth are not him, it's the cancer affecting his brain. She has to be brave for their daughters and young grandchildren and most importantly for him. They wanted to have one last Christmas together has a family. The doctors just informed her that at their next visit they should exchange Christmas presents.

So my worries about not being ready for Christmas are nothing compared to the worries and the heartache that David and his family are facing. It is all in perspective now. It doesn't really matter how "decked the halls" of our house is or that all the presents haven't been bought or that the goodies aren't made for the neighbors yet. At least the Christmas trees are up and decorated. I don't think my kids will notice that some decorations didn't make it out this year. Some presents are bought and I feel that kids today have too much anyway. And if I don't get around to making the neighbors gifts this year, it won't be a tragedy.

What is important is family. My thoughts and prayers are with my cousin and his family and what they are going through. His wife and daughters sit by his beside day and night, knowing that death is right around the corner for him. They are trying to be strong for each other and are trying to accept what is coming.

They need all the prayers they can get to get through this so may I ask that you please say a prayer for them also?

About two years ago when I first heard about "The Elf On a Shelf" I tried to find him but he was no where to be found. Everyone was sold out. This week I was at one of my favorite little toy stores and there the elf was, sitting in a box just waiting for me to take him home. I hesitated for a second since the older two kiddies "know" about Santa and the youngest I think knows but he still wants to believe. It would be silly of me to buy the elf since this is probably the last year of my youngest still believing in Santa. Who cares...the elf is so cute...I'm buying him. They wrapped him for me and away I went.

Later that night, I had the kiddies come into the family room and open the gift. The only one interested was the youngest. I still made all three sit down and listen to the story as I read it. Now the youngest was listening with all ears while the other two were squirming around, rolling their eyes until I came to the part where we got to name the elf. The oldest two thought it would be hysterical to name the elf "Yellow Snow". NO WAY was I going for that. Now the youngest, was coming up with all sorts of cute names like Cooper and Elfie. Since there couldn't be an agreement on the name, we went with Clyde for now.

To get the oldest two into looking for the Elf, I made it a count down till Christmas with treats being left also. It's a race now between the boys to see who can be the first one up to find "Clyde". My daughter could care less who finds him first, she just wants the goodies. And I'm just happy that we still have a little Christmas fun going on since this is the probably the last year for "Santa" to be a jolly plump man in the red suit. By next year, I'm sure they will all know who "Santa" is.

Every time I pull in the parking lot at Super Wal-Mart, I ask myself why...why...why do I keep coming back to this place? The lines are always GIGANTIC, it's messy, it's dirty, you never know what you might see and I feel like I have to watch my purse more closely than I do anywhere else. (I always put my purse in the seat of the shopping cart to my Mother's dismay.) I should make the trek to my favorite store, Target, even though it is farther away and it doesn't have the grocery store in it. But still when I'm in a hurry, to Wally World I go.

So this afternoon, I pull into a parking space with my shopping list in hand and off I go to the entrance. I happen to glance over to the right to see a man relieving himself on a truck, right by the driver's door. EEEW!!! Now mind you, this is like the third parking space from the front entrance with tons of people coming and going. I notice other people taking double takes just as I did. Then the man straightens his sweat pants and walks away. Right after that a man walks out and goes to that truck. All I can think of is that he's going to step in it. EEEW!!! I wanted to go tell him to watch his step while getting in the truck but I was too far away by then and he's probably better off not knowing anyway.

Lesson learned today...trust my instincts and just go to Target where the aisles are clean and nicely kept, where I can grab a fountain drink and leisurely browse the aisles, then make my way to the cashiers and leave with way more than what was on my list.

I've seen this on a couple of blogs and thought it looked like fun.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper with ribbon and embellishments.

2. Real or artificial tree? Artificial for the last few years because those pesky little needles ended up everywhere throughout the house.

3. When do you put up the Christmas tree? First weekend in December

4. When do you take the tree down? By January 1st.

5. Like eggnog? Yuck!!!

6. Do you have a nativity scene? Unfortunately not.

7. Favorite gift received as a child? Ears pierced in sixth grade.

10. Worst Christmas gift? Presents from In-laws.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present. No way (with my luck I would give it back to the person who gave it to me)

17. Travel during Christmas or stay home? We rotate between going back to Nebraska for Thanksgiving or Christmas every year. And if were not in Nebraska, family comes here. We have never been alone for Christmas. I wish we could have one Christmas morning by ourselves with the kiddies while they are still young, where we could stay in our pj's, watch them open their gifts and then just enjoy playing with them and all their new toys....a fun, relaxing, memorable morning.

I love my Mom and Dad but way to much picture taking Christmas morning. They want them to wait at the top of the stairs, snap tons of photos and even more as they are running down the stairs. Then snap more photos in front of the tree before opening gifts. They're kids, they want to dig right in and then play with everything, noisy toys and all. (Grandpa doesn't like noisy toys.)

21. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Oh, don't get me started. Rude people, crowds, standing in line at the stores, "cheesy" decorations, forgetting the true meaning of Christmas.

22. Favorite ornament? A Waterford ornament that I spent way to much money on and am always nervous putting it on the tree in fear that it will get broken.

23. What do you want for Christmas this year? For this country, I want the economy to get back on track and the housing market to get out of this horrible slump.

I Need The "Oven Fairy" to Drop By

OOOOH.......MY........GOSH!!!!!! Twenty one days till Christmas. Yes girlies, the panic has set in. The house isn't decorated, presents have not begun to be bought. I'm just now getting house cleaned from the Thanksgiving weekend and laundry caught up.

We had quite an eventful Thanksgiving. To start things off, the boys both played in a hockey tournament over the holiday weekend. We actually had one game on Thanksgiving day. I was in shock that there would be a game that day but that's hockey for ya.

My parents came in from Nebraska and my sister and her family were in and out all weekend.

The Huskers won their football game!!!! Yippee!!!! Lots of cheering going on in the house!!!

Our oven decided to die on Wednesday night, the night before Thanksgiving. Yep...died...right in the middle of cooking dinner that night. So now we have family in for the holiday, turkey in the frig, and no working oven. What to do...not a clue. Hubby pulls out oven and four grown adults are gathered around staring at the thing. We're pushing wires in, making sure things are tight...acting like we know a thing or two. Who were we kidding, what do we know about ovens?!!!

Hubby comes to the rescue and calls neighbor. They will cook our turkey. So on Thanksgiving day, were off to hockey game in the morning and we've got turkey in one neighbors oven and other goodies in another neighbors oven. We made it through and it was all very delicious.

So now it's Wednesday and I still haven't gone out to find a new oven. I'm realizing how much we use it, especially for all those frozen pizzas that are in the freezer. I could call a repairman but this oven is twelve years old and I would really like a new, shiny one. Hubby is off to Wisconsin tomorrow because Mr. T is playing in another hockey tournament. So maybe next week, Hubby and I can finally go out and find a new oven.

Can an "Oven Fairy" just drop a new oven off please? I would be really grateful.

P.S. I had to add one more picture because I like this one better of me even though it is really blurry. Mr. GQ was begging to take a photo that day. It is me with my loooong hair. (Boo hoo, can you hear me sniffling?) The picture of me with the apron on was taken today. I went for a hair cut today and for some crazy reason, instead of just getting a trim, I decided to change up the style a bit. It didn't exactly turn out like what I was envisioning. What was I thinking, especially right before Christmas pictures?

Ok...I'm done agonizing over my hair. It will grow back. Right?!!!

Easy Dinner Recipe

Lately, I've been kind of in a rut trying to figure out what to make for dinner. I was in search of some new recipes since we're trying to cut back on eating out so much and I was tired of making the same things week after week.

A friend sent me this recipe. It is super easy and tasty so I thought I would share it with all of you. It is simple enough for kids to help out with too. Mr. T and I made it for dinner last night. He actually did all the work, I just helped with measuring the ingredients.

Everyday Meat Loaf

2/3 cup dry bread crumbs

1 cup milk

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef or turkey

2 eggs, beaten

1/4 cup grated onion

1 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. pepper

1/2 tsp. sage

Brown Sugar Mixture

3 TBS. brown sugar

1/4 cup ketchup

1 tsp. dry mustard

Soak bread crumbs in milk; add eggs, meat, onion and seasonings. Mix well and put in loaf pan. Cover meat loaf with brown sugar mixture. Bake for one hour at 350 degrees.

(Next time, I am going to use lean ground meat and make a little extra of the brown sugar mixture.)

Beware: Close-Up

How's this for a close up?!!! I had my make-up done for a dinner party we were attending. I wanted a photo of my eyes to remember what they looked like so I could try to duplicate it. Hubby got the close-up and it made me notice a few other things. Eeeek!! The wrinkles around my eyes and on my forehead, OH MY!!!!!

This reminded me of a funny story. When Mr. T was around two or three years old, he was face to face with me. He was looking very seriously at me, staring at me. He was very concerned with the "cracks" around my eyes as he called it. He wanted to know if it hurt and if I needed medicine on them. Can you guess what he was talking about?!! Yep, the lovely wrinkles around my eyes. Gotta love kids for their honesty. It was pretty funny and I got a good laugh out of it. That story went immediately into his memory book.

Stainless Steel......Uuuuugh!!!

A few years back we bought a new refrigerator. While picking it out, all the salesman said stainless steel was the way to go. Also at the time we were thinking about moving and our realtor told us that stainless steel appliances in the kitchen are what buyers are looking for. I love the look, but was hesitant because even before we had kids we use to have a stainless steel sink. I felt like I had to wipe it down every time we used it because there were always water spots and that drove me nuts. A little reluctant, I went ahead and ordered one.

Refrigerator arrives, all nice and shiny. Looks nice in kitchen. Now thinking it would be nice to get rid of other appliances and really "spif up" the kitchen with a new viking stove, dishwasher and microwave to match refrigerator. And while were at it, change counter tops and maybe get a new island. I start shopping around.

A little time passes and a bit of reality sets in. We have three kids with one being a very messy, messy boy. Finger prints, drip marks from the water spout on the front, little scratches on refrigerator. Wiping down stainless steel every day. One housewife getting very cranky every time someone touches the refrigerator or even comes in contact with it.

This morning, Mr. T walks by with his backpack, grazing the refrigerator.

Me: "Hey, watch out for the refrigerator."

Mr. T looks at me puzzled probably because he's thinking he's not even touching it with his hands.

Me: "I don't want anymore little scratches on the front of the refrigerator and you just dragged your backpack with all the zippers right across it. Please be more careful."

Mr. T walks away, shaking his head, giving me a little growl.

So I'm convinced that who ever decided stainless steel was the "in" thing did not have kids, well at least not boys anyway.
